Frequently Asked
Questions
Our FAQs on tool theft protection cover everything you need to know about keeping your equipment safe. Discover how our tailored security systems prevent break-ins, protect valuable tools, and give you complete peace of mind on and off the job.
Do I need to protect the van doors with latch shields if I already have deadlocks?
Yes. Deadlocks provide an additional locking point on the door, but only work when they are locked. The most common type of attack by thieves, is to drill the door and attack the original door mechanism/latch. If you protect the original latch with shields inside, or outside the door (or both), you have an additional layer of protection 24 hours a day, even when deadlocks aren’t locked. We recommend multiple layers of security for effective tool theft prevention.
What’s the best way to prevent a van break-in?
Fit as much security as you can afford. Consider where you park, if you can park close to a wall or fence so it’s hard to get to your doors. Don’t leave anything expensive on show in the cab, and try to park in a well lit and busy area. Thieves will look at your van and try to work out how much time and effort they will need to get in. The higher risk for them, the less likely they will try.
Do I need more than just locks?
The best defence is a combination of many layers of security. Think of it like a thief is running a gauntlet; the more barriers that stand in the way, the less likely they are to get through. Hook Deadlocks are subtle but effective, door shielding can be on show to deter, or hidden to keep your van looking sharp. Camera systems can be a further deterrent, and provide evidence to the authorities should anything untoward occur. One layer isn’t enough anymore, thieves are too fast for that.
Is van security really worth the investment?
Absolutely. After a break in, the cost to you isn’t just the tools that have gone. You have time off the road, lost earnings, van repair costs, and probably an increase in insurance premium. The cost to you does not stop there. Thieves will often target the same van 3 months later in the hope that tools have been replaced and the security not improved. The cost of replacing stolen tools or dealing with the aftermath runs into the thousands. A one-time investment in proper security can prevent that, and protect your business long-term.
